Violet Cow Family
The Violet cow family traces to D&E Abe Violet, matriarch of the breed's most popular genomic family.
As of December 2015, Violet had more than 680 direct maternal descendants spanning five generations. Numerous paternal progeny descend from her 42 sons, 102 grandsons and 112 great-grandsons.
Her maternal line has been bred by the Sherman family since 1944, going back 15 generations. The 15th dam was purchased from the herd of Guy Miller, Modesto, CA, who was named AJCC Master Breeder in 1948.
Violet and her daughter, D&E Paramount Violet, were both nominated as finalists in the 2015 Jersey Journal Great Cow Contest - the only mother-daughter duo to earn the distinction.
